In that scene where the kids stumble upon the trip-wires, the bunch of them saw Boy #9 Masakatsu Taguchi (minus his legs) dangling from above. Was he hung up at that spot by Wild Seven member or was his body tossed up by the impact of a mine he stepped on? Looks weird because he later dropped down as though he was part of a booby trap.
I think that given how soon the single mine blast was before the others arrive (and it was my impression that Totsuka and a couple other "Squad 2" girls were with Taguchi when it happened, and they were knocked down by the blast), Taguchi was tossed up by the mine and somehow got suspended where he got suspended, gradually slipping off later.
I believe their intent was that Taguchi was shocked and wasn't fully comprehending of things--much like the soldier from Saving Private Ryan who stops to pick up his dismembered arm.
And he *was* dripping blood from his legs, though not gushing fountains Crazy-88 style; watch them (well, the stumps) closely. And note the close up of Hosaka gasping just before we see Taguchi--Taguchi's blood drips down to Hosaka's face.
True, in that scene from SPR the guy's arm was blown off at the socket and he wasn't gushing either - maybe an explosion would somewhat cauterize the wound so it wouldn't bleed as much vs. a sword cut like in Kill Bill (when The Bride dismembers Sophie Fatale). Also if the blast was strong enough to propel him like 20 ft. into the air he likely got shocked and shaken up pretty bad so he was pretty numb and the pain was largely dulled.
This largely answers my previous question about the relative lack of blood that Taguchi was dripping. Although being blown so high into the air would likely mean he had stepped on or tripped more than 1 mine/booby trap.

Quote:on the afternoon of March 31, the NVA mortarmen popped a round in when nobody was looking. The thing came out of nowhere and exploded in the trench. I heard a yell for a corpsman and ran down there. It had gone off knee-to-waist-high, right where Sergeant Ferrari was standing. One of his legs was blown off and the other was hanging by a thread. There was no blood; the heat of the exploding round had cauterized the wounds.
Prob not lol. But I am glad someone made this thread cause I actually was about to ask about this scene aswell. When the explosion happens I think Taguchi was
the only one there cause it takes the others a while to get to him. Does that mean they sent him ahead to check for traps or something? There are other minor
parts of this scene that are confusing so were things cut out of it? Like I've been thinking of getting "Revenge" just to see more bonus parts
and is there more to this part in "Revenge"? Like for example showing Taguchi actually step on a mine?

ok possibly. so does anyone know if this scene was edited?

From explosion of landmine - "Mission 3: Break in"
41:25 - 44:50 on dvd = 205 seconds
Revenge
From explosion of landmine - "Mission 3: Break in"
47:16 - 50:55 on dvd = 219 seconds
Now, the most obvious addition is Risa Shindo asking how everyone can fight and kill so easily to which Riki gives her an answer. However, the arrangement of
some of the scenes during the landmine sequence and the placement of some of the cuts is different between Requiem and Revenge. For the most part Revenge
benefits from the changes, and as well the subtitles are a bit different and more clear.
Revenge as a whole is about 20 minutes longer than Requiem, but very little of that goes into extending the landmine scene. I find the sequence flows a lot
better in Revenge, but don't expect any major changes.
I still say if you can pick up Revenge easily enough and for a price that is of satisfaction - then go for it. Some of the other changes and additions in the
movie are more significant and IMO make the film much more enjoyable. Around a year ago I had written up a 3 page definitive comparison between the 2 versions
of BRII, however I never got around to typing it up, and it seems to have disappeared now. Perhaps some point in the future I will revisit doing a break down
of the two, just seems most people are never interested in BRII....
Anyways, hope this has been somewhat helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll try to be around more frequently.
Cheers
