Jack Nicholson would do a great job as Kitano! I think Robin Williams would do a great job as Kitano as well. Yes, he's a comedian, but he can be realy
serious and creepy as well( One Hour Photo, anyone).
maybe you can cast someone who is beginning to start out in movies, i think Zac efron should star in it, and miliy cirus lol it would be funny to see her die
lol but in all seriousness im going with seraphim princess, cast keira knightly of tom cruise cuz they would be good in the movie but word of caution, you
don't want tp go to old with casting
I'd love to see Robert Downey Jr. star as Kitano, he is, in my opinion, one of the most talented actors around, and I think he could play a sinister and
psychotic teacher really well, I'd love to see him as a sadistic bad guy. Or even Jason Statham, he could definitely pull it off, he knows how to put on
his scary face.
As for the person who suggested Zac Efron....I'd only want him in it if he's going to die horribly, that would be great.
I think Ellen Page from Juno would be a good choice, she's a great actress and I would feel for her if she was in a situation like BR, maybe she could play
Noriko, or even just a not-so-important character such as Tendo, I think she could play any of the female characters, she even kinda looks a bit like an
American version of Hirono.
I think that Laurence Fishburne or Robert Downy Jr. are the best choices for Kitano. Jack Nicholson wouldn't such a great idea because hes too sarcastic in
his roles. As amazing as he is, I think Robin Williams would be a miscast. 13kills said Jason Statham could pull it off...that would be risky. Jason Statham is
used to playing a total badass which just doesnt fit Kitano. Someone earlier suggested Samuel L Jackson...are you kidding? "YOU MUTHAFUCKIN KIDS ARE GONNA
KILL EACH OTHER FOR 3 MUTHAFUCKIN DAYS!!!....MUTHAFUCKA!"As awesome as he is I don't think so.
As for a western Kiriyama, I think the best choice would be Robert Pattinson. Hes proved he can play an apathetic killer in twilight...hell he even looks like
a white version of Kiriyama.
If Zac Effron is going to be in it then he needs to die a brutal death. His collar shoud get activated.
I just saw a movie called Tamara, and I found the perfect actress for Mitsuko. Her name's Jenna Dewan. She's gotten a bit older since the movie (it
was back in 2005), but I still think she would be PERFECT for Mitsuko. I mean, look at this picture.
It just screams Mitsuko, doesn't it? She needs to look EXACTLY like this if they ever make an American film.
Nonononono, Ken, no! She's 30! I admit, she was good as Tamara but she's too old. I think they shouldn't cast anyone under 20/21-ish if they want
to have the characters be freshmen. Sorry to burst your bubble, the choice is good but she's simply too old to seriously be casted for a 15-year-old.
I used to have a list somewhere with suggestions but I need to update it since a couple of actors are too old on that list too but I didn't know anyone
better for it.
Now, my suggestion for Mitsuko is Cassie Steele who is 19, just like Kou's age when she played in BR. It's simply because she has the right age and
pulls the slutlook off well.
Suggestions (ah I found the List. I tried to stick to only three people over 20 (one for Kawada who of course is supposed to be a little bit older) and mainly
because they look younger. I also can't really find any other good Asian American actors that are the right age other then Bee Vang from Gran Torino).
I'm adding pictures too.
Yoshio: Kyle Sullivan. After having seen him star in Malcolm in the Middle, I got hooked and he's only 20 years old. He is chubby but not over the top
chubby that it's going to be the stereotypical 'fat character'. I hope they give him as much screentime as in the manga though because that was the
only version that actually added something for his character. He also has a bit of a dorky-yet-kind look!
http://z.about.com/d/tvcomedies/1/0/3/3/-/-/Kyle_Sullivan.jpg
Keita: Jared Kusnitz, I think he's 20 or soomething so he has a relatively right age (considering in so many movies they cast actors who are ten years
older then the age they should be playing) plus he played a goofy character in Dance of the Dead, where he showed to pull off the more intense stuff but still
with some comedy. I think they'd probably use the movie Keita who was a big goofball so it would work.
http://content6.flixster.com/photo/11/34/10/11341084_tml.jpg
Tatsumichi: Taylor Lautner. Everyone is crazy about him and so I want to put in a toy-with-the audience thing. All the tweengirls will go crazy when seeing his
name on the list which will make it hilarious if he only gets a 2 minute scene and an early demise.
http://www.teenidols4you.com/blink/Actors/taylor_lautner/taylor_lautner_1206895232.jpg
Toshinori: Jesse James (from The Amityville Horror remake and Butterfly Effect, that one. The 19-year-old one.). I remember the first time I watched the
Butterfly Effect and I got the creeps from how good he acted as the tough-but-hurt guy. I think he would pull off the funny and incredibly snobbish Toshiniori
well. He lost some weight in the past few years by the way but can't find a good recent picture. He however pulls off playing a bad guy, watch The
Butterfly Effect.
http://z.about.com/d/movies/1/G/y/X/6/jessejamesamityville1.jpg
Shogo: Michael Obiora or Elijah Kelly. Somehow, I just know they'd make Shogo a black guy and then let them at least cast someone who can act and
doesn't have balloon-sized muscles. (manga... *cringes*) Elijah Kelley was great in Take the Lead as the more funny guy and played a typical good guy and
more 'savior-ish' in Hairspray so he would do well. Michael Obiora was awesome as Ben in Hotel Babylon, he played the typical gay guy well but with new
twists and there's an episode where a celeb staying in the hotel used to be a friend of his who dropped him once they kissed by accident and then was all
anti-gay-ish and the confrontation was amazing.
Michael: http://www.voice-online.co.uk/images/8557.jpg
Elijah: http://img.blogdecine.com/2007/07/532809.jpg
Kazuo: Okay pleaaase don't flame me but I think that Cameron Bright is a very talented child actor, he's 15/16 right now and he already showed to have
this more creepy kind of character look in Running Scared. He might look a bit too 'dorkish' for Kiriyama but at least he can act. Not that there's
that much you need to do for Kiriyama but I think he would pull it off for the creepy stare he can have. Let him grow his hair and he'll pull it off.
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm102337280/nm1080974
Yoshitoki: Bee Vang, I think he would pull it off, he looks kind and stuff but still good enough to be in the 'cool' group
http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/still/gran_torino02.jpg
Yoji: Anton Yelchin, talented actor.
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1530304256/nm0947338
Hiroshi: Kyle Massey seems nice for the part, he has the more 'gang member'-ish look and he's close to the right age.
http://www.aolcdn.com/ch_kids/cory-house-400-010507.jpg
Ryuhei: I'm going to add a Latino character to this, Junio Valverde. He played as a cute kid in The Devil's Backbone but he apparently is now as a
grown-up starring in a Spanish horror movie as well so that means he must be good. I saw some pictures and he's definitely good looking but still has
something that would work as a shy guy. He'll just somehow has to learn English.
http://www.adn.es/clipping/ADNIMA20071215_2286/5.jpg
Hiroki: Rory Culkin, he starred in Mean Creak and talented kid actor. He's all grown up now, 19 years old, and he still has an innocent look but the long
hair and the broad body, look:
http://www.evilbeetgossip.../2007/08/culkin_bros.jpg one on the right
Yutaka: I first had Jake Goldsbie in mind but he's just too old. My back-up choice is Daryl Sabara, yep, once again a kiddie actor.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/Daryl_Sabara_1.jpg
Yuichiro: Dalmar Abuzeid but only if they change his appearance back to the dorky Danny from Degrassi haha.
http://www.ctv.ca/archives/CTVNews/img2/20071019/110_dalmar_danny.jpg
one on the left but the one on the right might work too which is Marc Donato
Shou: First of all I really hope they'll give him the stalking/collar death scene and second, I'm going to put in an Asian actor after all and
it'll be Yusuke Yamamoto. He played the sort of psychic aura-seeing, in-your-face character on Hana Kimi but with a certain comedy side to it so he would
be amazing. But yeah, we need the actors to be native English probably -___- then I have no idea.
Shuya: Switched Malcom David Kelley and Alex Neuberger at the last moment. I think Alex would carry this role well, he played a very serious role in Running
Scared with Cameron Bright (so the two are used to act against each other, see Kiriyama for Cameron) and he pulled it off very well. He also has a bit of
comedic sides too so I'm picking him for the main guy. Also, Malcolm I think is a bit too much of a big star and I prefer a slightly less well-known actor
for the lead. If the big actors die early/earlier, it gives more of a 'anyone can live' feeling for the audience.
http://us.ent3.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/walt_disney/underdog/_group_photos/alex_neuberger1.jpg
Kazushi: Malcolm David Kelley, a talented child actor (starred on Lost but also guest starred in other shows such as Saving Grace and I think Judging Amy too)
so of course I'm including him.
http://bf-1.com/news-english/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/300kelleymalcolmlc022609.jpg
Mitsuru: Christoph Sanders. I've learned to love this guy in Ghost Whisperer and apparently he's all grown up now! His acting in GW is great and I
think he would do some inner struggling well (if they decide to this time give the gang some more screentime then just the shoot shoot shoot scene).
http://blog.ugo.com/images/uploads/Christophsanders_thumb.jpg
Tadakatsu: Haruma Miura and please give him the manga scene instead of just an offscreen death. But once again, the guy needs to learn English first.
Shinji: Changed this to Justin Berfield from Malcolm in the Middle. He just has the look even though he's a few years too old (22) but he has a young face
so maybe it might still work.
http://www.nndb.com/people/913/000108589/justin-berfield.jpg
Kyoichi: Craig Lamar Traylor. I loved him as Stevie in Malcolm in the Middle and he in real life wears glasses like him. He also has the more slim-built and I
think it would be fun to have a black class representative character who isn't like in so many movies as the stereotypical black guy going to be all
badass.
http://images.tvrage.com/people/21/60336.jpg
Kazuhiko: Dan Curtis Lee, he played a really goofy role in Ned's Declassified and maybe he would be cool for this one too.
Mizuho: Emily Osment, she has this 'strange' look. Now I just hope they pick the roleplaying Mizuho.
Yukie: Evanna Lynch, her acting is really good and she has this certain look that just glues you to the screen. Not to mention she's cute looking and the
right age. I want her to have a more bigger role.
Megumi: Christina Schmidt, I think she is a very talented actress and I like to have more then just one overweight girl character. She pulls off the naive girl
very well. She's maybe a little too old (21) and if so then my backup for her is Carrie Finklea even though it's only one year difference
Christina: http://www.bongoproductions.com/students/kids/Christina.jpg
Carrie: http://j.bdbphotos.com/pictures/R/4/R4E2Y0.jpg
Sakura: Sophie Wu, she starred in Hotel Babylon and I think she's very good.
http://image.mcomet.com/M/2007_8_imdb/0photo_25/thumb/0_2007-8-3-4-41-42406.jpg
Izumi: Kristen Stewart or someone big which will piss off the audience that the big star goes fast.
Yukiko: Daniella Monet, she looks very good and is pretty good at acting too. She would pull off the cute, innocent girl.
Yumiko: Karle Warren, after Judging Amy she didn't have any jobs anymore and she's really talented for a young girl so I want her in.
Yuko: Madilyn Sweeten, after Everyone Loves Raymond she hasn't been in anything yet but she's very good for a young girl! I want to see her inner
struggles with having accidentally killed five of her friends.
http://photos.exposay.com...adelyn_sweeten_tbRPX.jpg can't find a f-cking
better picture then this stupid award show one but I liked her in ELR so it's why I mention her.
Hirono: Paula Brancati, she has the sassy attitude and her char on Degrassi has this more punk/goth look and she still can act really well and show very real
emotion so if they go with the confronting movie Hirono mixed with her ending up in the well that would be great. My first choice was Deanna Casaluce but
she's maybe too old.
Mitsuko: Cassie Steele, she's hot, talented (I hate Manny in Degrassi so she must be doing something well since it's really the character and not the
storylines I hate about her) and well... right age and did I mention she's hot? I think that's good enough for Mitsuko. (pics in the post above)
Haruka: Mihola Teriz, she's 20 and starred in a really so-bad-its-good slasher and well, I like her. Somehow she worked in that movie and she played a
pretty gutsy-yet-emotional character in that one so maybe she's good for Haruka if we cut her hair off a little?
http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/1610/013033cp9es3.jpg
Takako: Kelly Vitz, she played a pretty cool rich snobby character in Simon Says and on this pic, she has the certain 'angry Takako' look. I think
she'd fit.
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm534747648/nm1712175
Mayumi: Selena Gomez, it'll be fun to see everyone go apesh-t about that a famous girl gets such a small character.
Noriko: Saoirse Ronan, she's talented, the right age, looks not too cute/hot/amazing and so makes it more plausible for her to be a more final girl
character and to relate to. Did I mention she's talented and would be able to lead a movie?
Yuka: Hasifa Herzi, she starred in a French movie but she's very good and looks pretty but still is a bit overweight. I think that if she's given more
then just the 'eat the soup and die' part like in the movie she'd make a very good impression. Also I like to add more racial diversity so
that's why a Muslim-ish character. She needs to learn English though. Also, she's a little bit too old maybe. My back-up is the one year younger Kallie
Flynn Childress
Hafsia: http://www.reelingreviews.com/thesecretofthegrainpic.jpg
Kallie: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1558418688/nm1445208
Satomi: Sarah Barrable-Tishauer, I know you guys must start to get bored from all the Degrassi suggestions but the Liberty character she plays is actually very
similar to Satomi! She'd have an easy time to do this!
http://www.thestarscoop.com/2007/photos/s_b_t.jpg
Fumiyo: Kristen Stewart/Miley Cyrus/Selena Gomez/Any f-cking big star who will fit the 'Dead Star Walking' thing well.
Chisato: Carly Schroeder, from Mean Creek. Talented kid actress and she looks very cute and sweet like Chisato.
http://www.oregonherald.com/reviews/mark-sells/interviews/carly_schroeder/carly_schroeder.gif
Kaori: Chelsea/Brittney Coyle, those twin girls are pretty talented (they played in the opening scene in Dark Ride which was also the best scene in the full
movie XD)
Yoshimi: Melinda Shankar, again to vary up races and all. I originally hated her in Degrassi as another plastic bitchy girl but after having seen episode 818
it completely changed my mind about her and it turns out she can play the vulnerable, sweet girl very well. I definitely see similarities with Yoshimi and the
character she plays on Degrassi, Alli, so it would work.
Anddd sorry for not including pics for all of them but I'm getting tired of all the looking up.
Most of the kids should be played by either unknowns, or Degrassi alums. Say what you want about that show's melodrama, but it is one of the best sources
for young teen actors who can do more than just emote. There's a reason why so many of them get picked up by American shows (Shenae Grimes on 90210, Nina
Dobrev on The Vampire Diaries, and I'm sure I'm missing a lot more). Also, Degrassi actors, as a rule, are very close to the ages of their characters,
which means that if you get one, you're getting an actual teenager, not a twenty-something who looks like one. One suggestion that I've seen several
times in this thread that I especially like is Cassie Steele as Mitsuko. She played the slutty #**#+ Manny well, and Mitsuko shouldn't be much of a stretch
for her. The only problem would be resisting the studio pressure to put her on the soundtrack, as she's also a pop singer in Canada, and she and her label
might view this as a shot at her big break in America.
There should, however, be a few name actors in small, throwaway roles, just to screw with viewers' expectations. Have Megan Fox as the girl who gets the
knife thrown into her head at the beginning, for example. Cast Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez as the girls with the megaphone, who get gunned down by Kiriyama.
I'd tune into Radio Disney the day after the film comes out just to hear them explaining away that one to their little tween fans, who just saw them
getting ventilated with an Uzi.
For Kitano, I'd cast a comedian. One must remember that Takeshi Kitano was still well-known as a comedic actor in Japan when he was cast for BR (and still
is, to an extent), even after his Yakuza films. I'd go with someone like Robin Williams or Jim Carrey who's proven that they can take on more serious
roles, but is still best known for doing comedies. I've also had a really weird mental image of Tina Fey in the role, but maybe there's something wrong
with me.
Please no Kristen Stewart! I will gouge my eyes out first.
Just some quick casting suggestions:
Mitsuko: I noticed a lot of people suggested Cassie Steele. I can see why, because she definitely looks the part. However, I can't envision her effectively
pulling it off or conveying the right emotion.
I know I'm going to be torn apart for this one, but I really envision Hayden Pannettiere. She's a versatile actress, she's gorgeous, and she can
really play a bad ass! Equip her with a gun and sickle, give her some dark locks and there you have it!
Shogo: I love Joseph Gordan-Levitt. He's a little old now, but he still looks pretty young! Also, and I know I'm going to receive flack for this one
probably, but I also sort of envision Cam Gigandet. Why? I blame the manga's portrayal of Shogo and his big rippling muscles. Unfortunately, he's
probably too old.
Noriko: I like the Ellen Page suggestion. She's pretty but has that youthful innocence about her. I also like Sara Paxton. I never thought much of her
acting abilities until I saw her in Last House On The Left, which is why I think she could pull off a role like this.
Takako: Lindsey Shaw. Those of you that have seen her portrayal of Kat from the 10 Things I Hate About You TV series know what I'm talking about.
Kazuo: Michael Seater. No, I'm actually serious. Before you all proceed to rip me to shreds just look at him here. Ideally, I'd actually prefer that they somehow
got the original actor to come back for the remake, but of course he's far too old now.
Yoshimi: Whoever suggested Lauren Collins is a genius. She's a brilliant actress, way under-appreciated and she even LOOKS the part - hair, facial
features, everything!
Kitano: I'm surprised so many have suggested Robin Willaims. I don't normally like to see him in the antagonist role, but I can sort of envision it
too. Some other suggestions consist of: Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, Gene Hackman..
That about concludes it. Still looking for my perfect Shuya.
