Despite his obvious "connections" to Battle Royale, I personally don't think Tarantino 'd be right for the remake. Alota people on various message boards/forums have been throwing around Paul Verhoeven's name and, as of this post at least, I happen to pretty much agree w/ them.
Though I'm sure other directors' names will come up that may reshape my selection.
Not sure who I'd want to direct, but definitely not Ron Howard. I don't know why, but everything about it just screams no. I also don't know about Tarintino.
And this is completely off topic, but I absolutely love your signature, Seraphim Princess.
definetly not the legendary Steven Spielberg. I hate how he doesnt know how to end a movie.. pisses me off. Ill go all Hardcore Souma on his ass if he sets even a hop skip and jump towards its general direction
it would be to weird, but i really want to see what Tim Burton would do with it

Robert Rodriguez might be good. His direction of Sin City was pretty faithful to the original comics. Then again, he had Frank Miller with him the whole time, and he did make those Spy Kids movies...
Whoever directs, I hope they see the movie AND read the book.

Aww thanks ^_^ it's from Wicked.
I don't think one of those popular new directors would be a good idea, there seems to be a trend at the moment for people who direct music videos doing movies, which leads to those horrible fast-forward effects that look ok in adverts but suck bigtime in films (example: Saw )
David Fincher. He's 4 for 4 so far, with The Zodiac coming in January. He should be free by the time New Line has their eggs in a row.
And on the topic, as long as the director does a good job, I couldn't care less about who directs. It'll probably end up being some chump we've never heard of before.

i was thinking possibly paul greengrass or a similar "hyper-realism" director. a cinema verite battle royale would at least be interesting, even if it were bad.
after listening to the director's commentary for unrated version of the grudge, it seems that Sam kinda put Shimizu down for certain ideas, which lead the movie to become a PG-13.
