If so, i want get that, but again, i've been out of the loop, and since this is the place to get answers on BR, please let me know if there's something not right here. I don't want to spend the money on the wrong item. thanks in advance for the help.

This is probably a question that has been covered numerous times in the past, so please forgive me. I recently aquired the Korean Special Version of this film (box set, BR 1 + 2), and I noticed two things. 1. The framerate of Battle Royale is rather strange. At points it will flow fine, but sometimes it will seem to be "chugging". Very irritating. 2. In BR 2, towards the beginning of the film the movie freezes. It's around when they are coming into the island on the bus. I just get by this by holding fast forward, but it still is annoying. Are these normal? I am almost certain that not everyone experiences problem #2, but I still thought I'd ask.

The cover art appeared the same as the r0 ntsc cover art. Having read your site I got concerned that it could be a bootleg. Well that and it list him having 10 copies of a out of print dvd (his store did sell it does not sell copies so it could be legit.) Yet going to amazon.co.uk it also list the version you discussed (or at least the one I think your talking about as region 2 ([link=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Battle-Royale-NTSC-Kinji-Fukasaku/dp/B000068LB5/sr=8-5/qid=1159658600/ref=sr_1_5/026-0929681-2264429?ie=UTF8&s=dvd newwindow]Amazon Link[/link]). So is this the one I'm looking for? I want the one recommened by the site: The NSTC 5.1 region 0 dvd. If not I'll have to settle for the SE pal w/ ghosting issues. Thanks!

Let me thank this site however for all the great information about the dvds out there. It really helped my research about which one to buy.

I'm just wondering what version would be best for me. I already have the Australia release, which is @#%$ quality and has glued on subtitles and no special version thing (doesn't have that extra 8 minutes). But now I can buy stuff online and the main thing I want most is better video quality and the special version, so that would be the Korean SV, but are the subtitles really that bad? considedring I already have decent subtitles on my Australian release.

Posts: 3719 (05/11/07 15:28:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The Korean Starmax release is still my preferred version to watch---has the best video/ quality IMO (not counting the unsubbed Japanese R2 releases)---but that's long OOP and hard to find (if possible). The subs are less than desirable at parts, but they get the job done I think (just check back w/ this site to find out exactly what the hell Kitano and Noriko are saying in Requiem III). If you don't already own BRII, though, I'd recommend getting this one. It's also now OOP but hottopic.com seems to still carry it. It contains the SV of BR and the OV of BRII. Both are exactly the same transfers as the earlier Starmax release. Very good video/ audio (BR1 gets an extra 5.1 dolby track that the earlier Starmax release didn't have) but the subs are flawed at times BUT is still a nice release nonetheless. Fairly priced, too. Especially now that its OOP. Third disc of bonus material isn't subbed. --------------------------- "I just didn't want to be a loser anymore."

I'm thinking of getting my parents to buy the DVD for me for Christmas. I live in New York in the U.S. and was wondering if this was a good version of the DVD to get? Does it have good subtitles and stuff? www.target.com/Battle-Roy...yal&page=1 I don't want to spend money on something that won't work or can't understand.

I happen to own that version and for a bootleg its pretty good. The picture quality is very good. The subtitles are pretty much flawless, the only mistake I can think of off had is "herdesk" instead of "her desk". Lots of special features as well, all subtitled. The only issue with the extras is that one of the documentaries cuts out a few minutes in, though you still get the Gaiden one in all its glory, plus half a dozen other good "making ofs". I can pretty much guarantee you will be very happy with that version. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions let me know.

I seen the original version and the Korean SV on youtube, so if I go with the Korean I won't be in for any unpleasant surprises. the main bummer is that I'd have to get BR 2. Why can't they just distribute it in the US?? despite the theme of high schoolers killing each other and apparent high price Toie is asking. Seriously, this is one of the most recordbreaking films in Asian history, with proper advertising it could do ok here.
