Posts: 14 (03/05/08 19:40:48) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None so we were talking about this in another thread, and i started trying to do it, and it's hard! i want to see what you think the BR characters' names would be englishified! here's a couple i came up with: Shogo - Sid Shuya - Shawn Kazuo - Keith Noriko - Natalie Takako - Victoria/Tori Mitsuko - Melissa still like their original names better, but it's still fun XD

Hopefully, this can start some ideas.

(by the way, yuka=floor is kind of sad ;_; not exactly an empowering name there) for Yuki (snow): Flurry and Nevada are the only English ones for Yuki (courage): Richelle, Rikki, Terwyn for Yuka (floor): none... because no one is so cruel as to name their child floor XD for Yumi (bow): Paloma not sure how well those fit... any other ideas? While now I know the names by heart, the Japanese names are hard to discern who is who. The situation is further complicated by some character going by their first or last names and abbreviations. In addition many of their names are NOT pronounced anything like they are spelled. It may be sacrilegious but I think the names should have been westernized for both the novel and manga like 'Detective Conan.' While we knew no one in Japan would be named Bernie Goldstein, it least we could distinguish the characters. No doubt they will be westernized for the film. I do not speak Japanese and would like to know what the characters' names mean. 90% western names have a meaning. Most are Hebrew or Greek from the Bible. Others come from Celtic or Nordic lore. Other names come from historical figures like Alexander or JD for Jefferson Davis. Others refer to a family trade such as Farmer, Miller, or Smith. Others were Americanized to conceal their ethnicity such as Irish, Italian, or German. Do the BR Japanese names have any literal meanings or historical significance?
