Last is the only comment I have is the fact that the name of the person who killed a player will be announced over the reports. The reason I say this is because a part of the Program is to created that distrust of everybody. You don't know who is your friend and who is your enemy. By announcing who has killed that automatically tells you who to distrust and by not knowing it creates fear. To give an example from the novel the Mitsuko, Yuichiro, and Tadakatsu scene wouldn't have happened because that would already know she killed like 5 people.

Winner is open so far, I've a couple of ideas for potential winners but I'm setting nothing in stone until I'm much further down the line than this. Even as I start writing it it will evolve so the final winner won't be determined as such until nearer the end. No deadline for submissions ATM.

With that part of the announcement, by not giving the circumstances I'm creating room for misinformation. One death for example comes is a mercy blow at the request of the dying person, yet the announcement simply says that the person performing an act of mercy is the killer. As a consequence, all of that person's friends turn on them believing them a murderer. She's nobody's enemy, but is forced to become everybody's because no one will believe her. Taking the announcements at face value is no less a danger in this one than in the original.

Here btw are two of the main plotlines (there will of course be plenty more than this and I guarantee they get more complicated than they may first appear). One provides reasoning for my giving the killer in the announcements but specifically not the circumstances, incidentally:

The Legacy of the Anti-Clique

Adam Lewis (me actually) is a political idealist - exactly the kind the government hate. His group of social misfits are the Anti-Clique - an antithesis of a clique because they hang out because they don't fit in with other cliques. Nor do they fit with authority, and they have been arrested for their protests before. But in the classroom Adam's extremely frail sanity is shaken immediately, the soldiers resisting his oratory ability, and its effects are instantly visible. He starts to ramble insanely, nobody knows what he's talking about. One sentence though sticks in the mind - a stark warning to teacher Pete Morgan, declared in front of the class - "The Legacy of the Anti-Clique will be sealed with the kiss of a blade"

Of what does he speak? His group are weird, sinister even a lot of the time. But almost everyone in the year knows the feeling that perhaps they are destined for something. Perhaps the Legacy is real after all, and if it is, there may be implications far greater and far more horrifying than anyone in the class could possibly imagine...

You only die twice

Holly Morgan was one of life's lucky people - blessed with beauty, talent, and inside influence in the school with her dad being the head of her year (see above, the name is not a cooincidence). But beauty is a double-edged sword, and having most males in your school lusting after you is not necessarily a good thing, especially when they and you are faced with imminent death in the Program. She always swore she would never hurt a fly, she was possibly the nicest person you could ever meet in your life!

But such is the Game that an attempt is soon made on her young life. That in itself is not surprising, but what does surprise is the request made shortly thereafter by a dying friend - "Save yourself, no matter what!" She's been given a second chance in life, and it would be an affront to a most noble sacrifice to say no to a friend in that position. Such a shame the request did not consider the practical realities of the situation. Such a shame that poor Holly is forced to question her every value as she herself is accused of murder by the very people to whom she is closest! Now, caught between everything she knew and everything she doesn't want to know, Holly must find answers, in herself and in her situation. But time is short, and if she will not take action - there are plenty of others on the island who will...

Ooh, that's a very interesting idea! Not gonna say for absolute certain yet (I've got very specific reasons for assigning the few weapons I've got as certainties so far) but she does seem the right sort for it, and it increases the chance that she won't just be cannon fodder since it's a weapon I think deserves a bit more page time than that would allow. Your character seems especially interesting in the context of the one below, posted on IMDb. While they wouldn't be friends as such, I think there could be an interesting connection between them...

Family Background: Nothing really significant - she's an only child, born to an artist father and a mother who just has some boring office job.

Physical Description: Surrounding Hannah's round face is her faintly wavy hair, which is medium brown and cut into choppy layers that stick out all over the place. The longest parts barely brush her shoulders. Her round eyes, which are a few shades lighter than her hair, are adorned with naturally longer-than-average eyelashes, though they're not easily noticed thanks to the black, rectangular-ish glasses resting on her nose. Her eyebrows have the tiniest hint of an arch to them and are a little thicker than normal, but they're wispy enough to not look gross without attention. Her mouth is pouty enough to make her expressionless face look upset, and her lips are a bit full. Thanks to a natural aversion to outdoor activities, Hannah's skin is self-described as "artistically pallid." Though her figure can't quite be called boyish, she is noticeably less developed than most girls her age. Sartorially, her taste is very simple; rarely is she not dressed in a plain jeans-and-T-shirt getup. She prefers darker colors.

Personal history: Hannah's parents recognized her aptitude for learning when she was very young and did everything they could to support it. Under her father's tutelage, she read her first book (Dr. Seuss's Go Dog Go) at two and got her first library card at three. When she started school, she almost immediately became known as The Smart One due to both starting at a far more advanced level of knowledge than her peers and also learning at a far more accelerated rate. Unfortunately, Hannah's intelligence was a bit of a double-edged sword. Although school was a cakewalk for her, she wasn't particularly well-liked by her classmates. Some avoided her altogether; others enjoyed playing Torment The Weird Smart Girl and didn't even bother to be discreet in doing so. Whether it was done out of clichéd jealousy or a genuine dislike for Hannah is unknown. Of course, this all changed whenever they needed her help with schoolwork, in which case they acted as friendly as possible toward her. Being the doormat she was, she would do whatever they needed whilst feeling her resentment for them increasing at an exponential rate. When she was about eleven, she discovered her love of writing and has used it as an outlet for the aforementioned resentment ever since.

Personality: Although she would like to believe otherwise, Hannah is an extreme pessimist; not only is it evident in her sarcastic/morbid sense of humor, but she is quick to notice and criticize the negative aspects of just about anything. This, coupled with her rather unsatisfactory history of interaction with other people, has made her very, very misanthropic. Thanks to said misanthropy, she has virtually no friends at school and only a handful outside of it. Being inherently introverted doesn't exactly help with that, anyway. She's rather quiet, mostly because she's sometimes pretty conversationally awkward (a few years of people making fun of something she'd said was bound to shut her up eventually), but also because she feels that if she has nothing new and/or relevant to say about a certain subject, there's no point in talking at all. Despite hating people as much as she does, she's a little too conscious of what they think of her - being teased so much seems to have triggered her latent insecurity. In defiance of her otherwise aggressive attitude, she's more than a bit of a pushover; even though it's quite obvious that her bitterness toward her classmates is largely mutual, she's still willing to let them take advantage of her intelligence (as described above) because she believes that helping others is the right thing to do.

Interests/hobbies: As stated above, Hannah loves to write and aspires to do so as a career. Naturally, she also enjoys reading. She's quite adept at drawing, though she doesn't often doodle anything that's not a person or an animal. Hannah is something of a movie buff; most recently, her outside-of-school friends have gotten her interested in campy horror movies, though she enjoys them more for their unintentional humor than the gore. Her musical taste is mildly eclectic (she really only likes different forms of rock music), but she favors classic rock above other genres. Though her interest is sporadic, she enjoys geeky fantasy stuff like anime and video games.

Likely attitude to game: She believes that killing is wrong. However, given that she doesn't care at all about most of her classmates, she probably wouldn't hesitate to do it in self-defense or maybe - maybe - to save someone else. The stress of being in a life-or-death situation will almost definitely take over eventually, which would either force her into a desperate struggle to retain her humanity or, a little less likely, make her snap entirely.

Items held in backpack: Aside from the usual books and papers, she has a couple of extra notebooks for writing, a lot of pencils and a couple of pens, a sketchbook, iPod, cell phone (which she often forgets to charge, so it's likely to have a low battery), a key ring with all sorts of keychains on it but only one actual key, some ponytail holders, a hairbrush, an extra pair of glasses, and a first aid kit (one of those really small ones that doesn't have much more than band-aids and anti-bacterial wipes). It's probably also worth noting that she prefers to carry a messenger bag rather than a backpack.

Preferred weapon: Something unconventional, but still dangerous - in the original story she was in, she received a chainsaw. (I drew the weapons randomly, I swear.)

Least suitable weapon: Hard to say - she's pretty creative, so she'd be able to think of an effective way to use almost anything. Firearms aren't her style, though.

Romantic connections: …Ha.

Anything else you can think of: Note that she is clumsy. Very much so. If she's careful, though, it's not so bad. She also doesn't have the greatest stamina in the world.

Heh, Hannah is based on the 13/14 year old version of one of the IMDb users! I'm already working on it, but when I actually get stuff up...that will take time. There's a lot to plan, what with the characters, how they interact, the main storylines! Obviously things can change and evolve as they go, but the early chapters are important for how the later ones will go - in the bus scene for example I'm gonna try and establish the main relationships between the characters, and I can't do that till I get my full character list confirmed of course.

Also I work a full time job which takes a lot of my time of course, so you may have to be patient unfortunately. But this is a good start, and inside a week I do have about 3000 words written (the attempt on Holly Morgan's life mentioned in the "You only die twice" spiel above I've already done for example) but not anything I can post as yet I'm afraid!

Ultimately I'd rather do it right than fast, think that's for the best. Good things come to those who wait,etc, hehe...

Limit isn't 42, Scottish classes vary wildly in size...50 wouldn't be a massive problem, though I wouldn't likely go beyond that. I've currently got 18, though I do have a couple of specific roles I need to fill for which I probably need to write specific characters but I'll see what happens. Looking for approximately 20-30 more anyway between here and IMDb, so no worries about limits for now!

2 weeks is no problem at all IWuvHiroki, thank you! Truth be told I wasn't expecting anywhere near the response I've had to this so far, I've got 21 characters so far but that's only half of what I'm after!

For now, I give you a couple of my own creations, I apologise for the wall of text - I've just done a lot of thinking about these two...


Name: Kim Magdalene (sometimes called Mary because of her surname, she's indifferent to this)
Age: 17
Nationality: Welsh
Height: 5' 6''
Weight (OPTIONAL): About 7/8 stone
Family Background(OPTIONAL): Kim's was just an ordinary family, two loving parents and two sisters, one older the other younger. Then, when she was 11, just before starting high school in Wales, her mother was savagely raped, barely surviving the ordeal. The effect on the family was huge, they couldn't bear living in Cardiff anymore so moved up north, to the small Scottish town of Perth. But her mother had changed regardless, where once a confident and outgoing person she was now a broken shell, and the effect rippled across the family. Her father, while as tolerant as he could be, felt the pressure hugely, and became notably more aggressive to everyone else, and more determined than ever that his daughters should succeed in life. When she struggled to cope with this pressure, he taught her religion, and found she took to it devoutly, far more so than he was ever able to, despite his best intentions. But as she self destructed, it is only in the last couple of years that they have realised their own role. Of course, this realisation has not improved their outlook, and still they are a shadow of what they could, and some would say should have been…
Physical Description: Slim, petite, and pretty without being beautiful in the classical sense, there is something weird about her appearance. Enticing yet also repulsing. Considered generally to be a rose with thorns, appearance wise, and many who aren't interested in "film star" looks would say she's very enticing.
Personal history: Kim's father's desire to succeed in life through his children was reflected in Kim's case through her being a clarinet prodigy. He pressured her enormously to succeed, and quickly pushed her beyond breaking point. Visibly suffering, she accidentally discovered illicit substances, and quickly developed a taste for alcohol and drugs. She found they made it considerably easier to contend with things, she felt a renewed confidence. Of course though, they could only hide problems, not solve them, so at her father's insistence, she turned to healthier coping strategies - she found religion. Through her church, she met someone else who was knew to the area, Peter Lucianus. The two fast developed a bond, and he became a teacher to her. She came to be fascinated by the idea that she was being tested by God, that she would come through things. She confided in him that she was also into…less moral things. He found it hard to accept, yet such was her desire to repent and be redeemed, and such was her faith that even someone as fundamentalist as he could not begrudge her her vice too much. Through the same church, she met another school friend, Mark Johnson. Mark was fairly shy and generally didn't feel like he fit in anywhere - something Kim could empathise with. They became best friends right away, and Mark introduced her to his own small group, none of whom fit in anywhere - it was why they started hanging out weirdly enough. Soon, she was one of them! She had real friends! They evolved into the Anti-Clique and Kim was as much a part of that right to the end. They all made her feel welcome, safe and secure. They were highly protective and not in the slightest interested in judging or pressuring her. Yes, they fought, and often. But that's what came of such individualist people. Unfortunately though, she wasn't as able to control her taste for substances as she'd hoped, and time did not seem to heal the wounds of her family. She was clinging on to desperate hope that things would improve, though she didn't know how. She grew increasingly dependant on drink and drugs, and as high school ended she started to grow deathly afraid. When her group moved on to pastures new, what would become of her? She decided to study entrepreneurialism at Glasgow Caledonian so that she could maybe start a business of her own, and not be apart from her friends - plus most of them would be in Glasgow anyway. But would she even make it that far? Gripped by horrible depression, Kim recently finds herself clinging on to her sanity through her faith alone with neither her friends best efforts nor even the increasing quantities of drugs and drink she consumes working. Peter and the Anti-Clique know something at least of what's going on, but she tries desperately hard to keep it from everyone else. Especially from people like Jenna Widdowson, who has bullied her for years. How successful she's being in this however she can't even know, since she has no one to ask. The burden of trying to keep things from those like her teachers - who know nothing - and the burden of coping at all is proving too much. As long as she has her faith though, she will never give up the fight. After all, the consequences of giving up are too horrifying to imagine…
Personality: Clinically depressed, and it gets to her far more often than she'd ever like to admit, but Kim really is just about the nicest person you could possibly meet. Always fighting, always doing her best to overcome things, it is unfortunate that some of her interests are more sensible than others. Because she's got so much to hide about herself she often comes across as highly strung, and sometimes even arrogant, but anyone who really knows her knows that's just her insecurities talking. That seems to be the general way of the Anti-Clique anyway, most of the class know to look past the bravado, and Kim is generally pretty popular because they can do that. While feeling at home with the Anti-Clique, she's nonetheless also close friends with Holly Morgan, Rahne Southers, and most of that lot, and other than Jenna's lot (who mostly view her as a trainwreck alone, much to their amusement) there's not many in the year who could find reason to dislike her.
Interests/hobbies: Clarinet of course, she's a genius at it. Less nobly, drinking and drugtaking. Most things church as well, like Bible study, and through association with her friends she's been indoctrinated to various geeky things as well. She's pretty open minded and loves to try new things.
Likely attitude to game: There's no way she'd play. Her friends in the Anti-Clique would protect her, and she'd believe she can trust them so that's to whom she'd turn. She wouldn't trust anyone else though, given she knows how vulnerable she is. She wouldn't even trust Peter she doesn't think, as his fundamentalism could quite possibly be terrifying in a situation like this, especially with his having talked about his destiny to purify sinners on several occasions before. As with everyone else in her group however, the real trouble would be keeping herself sane. Provided she can keep her faith, and restrict her substance abuse in check, that should be a manageable goal. After all, that's how she's got through the last 6 years isn't it?
Items held in backpack: MP3 player, Bible, makeup, phone, drink and drugs (rather large supply) few books and comics.
Preferred weapon: She's a pacifist, so something that could just keep her alive, or else something small and quick (in case it had to come to violence) like a pistol.
Least suitable weapon: Anything large and bloody like a shotgun or katana.
Romantic connections (OPTIONAL): She's popular and attractive enough that a lot of guys are interested, but weird enough that many are put off, though she is seen as a "challenge" by enough. That's not wholly healthy of course. Adam Scott and Ken are highly protective of her and care about her a lot, but they're just friends. Peter Lucianus clearly feels something he doesn't understand for her, which is worrying in its own way, but the only guy she properly feels anything for is Mark Johnson. She's fairly sure he feels the same way, but neither want to risk the friendship or cause problems for the group with it.
Anything else you can think of: If anyone remembers past incarnations of Kim, this is a far darker one. I'm portraying her as far less of an angel and more a rose with thorns - a deeply troubled girl who, while meaning very well, is nonetheless falling victim to her problems (and indeed intended solutions). This Kim is Depute Head Girl btw (Head Girl being the equivalent of Usemi's Class Representative role) to Holly Morgan - partially because she's so popular, partially because the Anti-Clique virtually rigged the vote to ensure they would have representation on both sides (Adam is Head Boy), thus giving them actual political nous in addition to that that they just claim anyway.

Height: 6 foot 1
Weight (OPTIONAL): Fairly slim, but not unhealthily so. Weighs enough to have impressive arms/chest due to working out
Family Background(OPTIONAL): A highly religious mother, not unlike Carrie's mum, she instilled religious discipline in him from a young age, having had him after being raped. No father figure in his life, he was taught always to consider God his father.
Physical Description: Tall, dark haired and all around extremely good looking, though he views girls who see him that way as sinners. He wears a cross around his neck and keeps a bible close to his heart. He practises Martial Arts and meditation, believing they bring him closer to his divine master, and this has made him fit and athletic.
Personal history(LONG VERSION OPTIONAL): With a fundamentalist Christian mother it was inevitable that from a young age he would follow suit. He was educated at Primary level in a small religious school in England, but just about the time he was ready to start high school his mother grew sick of the "wretched sinners" in her community she decided to up sticks to Perth, where curiosity got the better of him high school and he insisted on a state school education. Since there was a Catholic school in Perth, he was reluctantly allowed to go. At the school he met Kim Magdalene and quickly became very close friends with her. She'd turned to religion due to personal issues and since the world was at the time alien to her he was more than happy to be her own teacher. Her myriad troubles didn't sit perfectly with his extremely rigid moral code, but the extreme urge she felt to repent her sins, and the belief that she was being tested by God provoked a strong sense of empathy in him. Her other main friends - the group known as the "Anti-Clique" annoyed him with their profligate decadence, but given how much they cared for and protected her he couldn't help but be impressed, and reluctantly he accepted them too. Unfortunately, nothing however could dissuade him from his heartfelt belief that his purpose on earth was to purify sinners by whatever means necessary. This did not lend itself to friendship and aside from Kim, and on occasion her friends and a few others from his mother's church he was always rather isolated. This did not however bother him much, as he considered himself above the great majority of people anyway. Their time would come.
Personality: Quiet and aloof most of the time due to unshakable morals based only on Divine mandate. The governments laws mean nothing to him except when upholding those of God - which is to him the purpose of any government. Were it not for his upbringing and his unfortunate superiority complex he might be a very well liked and respected guy. As is, he is arrogant, intolerant and generally passive-aggressive towards anyone trying to change him. Despite this, in his attitude towards Kim he shows quite clearly that he has it in himself to be a wonderful person, and those close to Kim are so often frustrated that he can't be like that around everyone else.
Interests/hobbies: Religion, helping sinners, helping the helpless (provided they have done all they can do to avoid sin), Bible study, meditation, some martial arts. He's surprisingly creative too, and is a capable musician, though the only person he'd ever play for is Kim.
Likely attitude to game: The Program he believes is his Divine Destiny - in it, he will be able to once and for all purify the sinners in his class. Unfortunately for them, most he considers too lost to be saved, meaning purification can only come through death. More worryingly, his definition of "Sinner" would likely be broad enough to include almost everyone other than himself. Given the extreme nature of Kim's sins though, one may very well question whether she can escape his judgement, and if she can - then how so without invalidating his entire system of reasoning?
Items held in backpack: Bible, selection of Christian music and reading material, not all intense and much reasonably enjoyable - he's not as fundamentalist as his mother, though he's not into much else either. Would also have a few medidatation tapes/manuals, and perhaps his violin as well.
Preferred weapon: Anything capable of killing, he's reasonably inventive and believes God will sort the details anyway
Least suitable weapon: Anything non-lethal, since it would impair his purification plans. Though he'd not likely be bothered by getting something not-dangerous - he'd just see it as another test to prove he's ready for what must come.
Romantic connections (OPTIONAL): Love isn't a concept he grasps particularly well, but his feelings for Kim Magdalene have confused him lately…
Anything else you can think of (OPTIONAL): Let's be clear, this isn't a Kazuo rip-off, as he plays the game out of duty. "Fun" is only a concept he's really aware of around Kim due to being socially stunted given his mother's refusal to let him play with "sinners". High school saw that stop being an option, for which he is thankful. The same sense of duty prevents him from helping himself really, as he doesn't believe he has a choice but to do what he does. If anyone has played Unreal Tournament 3 btw, you'll probably see a fair bit of the character Bishop in Peter! Naturally given his abhorrence of sinners he has an extremely brutal relationship with Jenna Widdowson's group, with their hatred being entirely mutual. Then again, he does hate most people...
